Blue Angels Over Epcot

This full video. You’ll see the flyovers at minutes 1:15 and 2:05.

Today I had one of those incredible opportunities that makes me pinch myself for living here. I got to take my kids out of school for the morning (with their teachers’ blessing, of course!) to see the Blue Angels make 2 flyover passes of Epcot.

We left home earlier than usual and had breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery before heading into Epcot through International Gateway when the park opened for normal hours at 9 a.m. There had (unfortunately for us and other locals) been Extra Magic Hours for people staying on property – so they’d been able to get in at 8 a.m. and secure spots, but we found spots without much trouble a few minutes after 9. After all, the show was in the sky, so it was hard not to have a great view….

They flew directly over Spaceship Earth and over world showcase at 9:30 a.m., then looped around out of site and returned for a second pass a few minutes later. The sound was awe inspiring. We felt so incredibly lucky to be there.

I’d figured we’d have been able to see them at the house, and that was later confirmed for me when I saw the neighbors’ pictures – but I’m still so glad we saw them at Epcot. Seeing them fly over Spaceship Earth and the rest of my favorite park…not to mention doing it surrounded by thousands of people who’d also chosen to come out to see it – was such a powerful experience.

Disney welcomes the Navy’s Blue Angels to do this in honor of May’s being National Military Appreciation Month. It’s a wonderful thing to behold. I can’t recommend it enough.

Especially if your youngest soon has been dreaming of being a Blue Angel pilot since he was 3….
