#TasteEPCOT: We still don’t love the India Booth.

The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival has been in full swing for a month now and I finally got around to trying the India Booth. I’m surprised it’s taken me this long. I love Indian food but generally haven’t loved what the India Booth at Food & Wine has offered up in prior years. When I saw a completely overhauled menu this year, I was hopeful.

Alas, the mango lassi is great as always – and especially in this heat(!!), but otherwise it was a miss again for me this year.

  • Crispy Paneer with Mango-Curry Ketchup ($5.00) (included in Emile’s fromage montage)

Love a good paneer dish so I was excited to try these, but just fried they were a little bland – and the mango-curry ketchup was more spicy tomato than anything else, so dipping in it didn’t add much. I could see a version of this working, but I didn’t love this as it was.

  • Potato and Pea Samosa with Coriander-Lime Cream (plant-based) ($5.25)

I was so excited to try these!! Again, lots of promise. The samosa dough was good but the filling was a little bland again and, again again, the sauce, which sounded like it should have been amazing, was more heat than flavor. I wanted this to be a great plant-based option, but it just missed the mark for me.

  • Chicken Tikka Masala with Fennel-spiced Yogurt and Naan Bread ($6.00)

This one made me the saddest. I *love* a good chicken tikka masala, but again this was more tomato and heat in execution. At least the naan was good…

  • Mango Lassi (non-alcoholic) ($5.00)

This is always one of my favorite things, especially in this August heat.

  • Mango Lassi with Sömrus Chai Cream Liqueur ($11.00)
  • Also offered: Taj Mahal Premium Lager ($5.00 for 6 oz., $9.00 for 12 oz.), Sula Brut Tropicale Sparkling Wine ($7.00), and Sula Chenin Blanc ($5.00)

Have any menu items missed the mark for you so far this year? It’s bound to happen – everything isn’t for everyone and you can’t have favorites without having less-than-favorites!!
