The Islands of the Caribbean booth at Food & Wine 2019 is at the top of World Showcase, near the Disney Trader shop. You’ll find three food items there this year – two savory and one sweet – and several beverage options. And they’re all good.
- Ropa Vieja Empanada with Tomato Aïoli (kid-approved, DDP snack credit eligible) ($5.50)
This is really lovely!! The meat is shredded to the point of being really fine, the dough tastes fresh, and the tomato aïoli is light and creamy. The jerk-spiced chicken might have been my personal favorite but this empanada was a contender!!
- Jerk-spiced Chicken with Roasted Sweet Plantain Salad and Mango Chutney Yogurt (gluten/wheat-friendly, DDP snack credit eligible) ($5.50)
The empanada is excellent but this is probably my choice if you’re getting just one thing at this booth. Which is only right, since the grills behind it are definitely what reels you in. The plantain salad and mango chutney yogurt are also really good – not to mention that it’s a great gluten free option!!
- Quesito: Puff Pastry with Sweetened Cream Cheese and Guava Sauce (vegetarian, kid-approved, DDP snack credit eligible) ($4.00)
This is a lovely little dessert. Light and flakey and drizzled with guava sauce, it’s a nice, not overpoweringly sweet option.
- Caribbean White Sangria ($5.00)
This is fine enough – but it’s a wee little cup of sangria for $5. I’d skip this in favor of the frozen mojito.
- Frozen Mojito ($10.50)
This made my top drinks list last year and likely will again. At $10.50, it’s pricey – but it’s so good it’s worth a try, especially in the summer heat.
I might be back for another frozen mojito before this summer heat breaks. But until then?
