Let the food reviews begin!!
As we all know, the much awaited Epcot International Food & Wine Festival started last week. I shared all of the menu boards on that first day and have since started tackling the food reviews for you guys.
It’s a labor of love.
The Alps booth is one of the few entirely new locations this season. It’s located just outside of the Norway pavilion and is full of hearty stews and melted cheese. In short, I had more than one reason to make a beeline there.
So without further ado:
- Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Baby Potatoes, Cornichons, and Baguette (vegetarian and kid-approved) (DDP snack credit eligible) ($5.00)
Raclette is a semi-hard cheese made in the Alps that someone came up with the brilliant idea of firing to the point of melting right on the wheel and scraping right onto food. I admittedly associate the experience with a much stinkier cheese than what they’re serving up at Epcot – which is basically just a glop of melted Swiss – but I understand the need to please the masses. And really, it’s still melted cheese with bread and potatoes. So it’s good by definition, if a little underwhelming.
And it’s also my first stamp in Emile’s Fromage Montage that will be scoring me a free cheesecake at Shimming Sips once it’s complete!
- Venison Stew with Crushed Potatoes (DDP snack credit eligible) ($6.00)
That said – this dish is the major play here. It’s stew, so it’s never going to sit pretty for a picture. But it’s really good. It’s hearty and rich and so not gamey that you’d never guess it was venison. So cover Bambi’s eyes and enjoy.
- Blueberry and Almond Frangipane Tart with Crème Fraîche and Blue Diamond® Almonds (vegetarian and kid-approved) (DDP snack credit eligible) ($4.50)
This is just a lovely little tart. Lemon isn’t included in the description but I’m getting major blueberry-lemon vibes from it. It’s very light and not overly sweet, which is always a good combo as far as I’m concerned.
So that said, one down, 29 to go!! I’ve got a few more already in my back pocket so I’ll try to rapid fire them out over the next few days.
But until then…
The Alps? Check!
