You’ve Run the Virtual Race – Now What??

Congratulations to everyone that got out there this weekend and ran as a part of the virtual 2020 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend powered by AfterSHOKZ!! Know that what you’ve done is incredible and that completing it as a virtual event means that you accomplished everything you’d trained for in the purest way possible. It wasn’t about the entertainment or the course or the costumes or the finish lines. It was just you and the open road (or trail or treadmill or…) – pounding the pavement and covering the distance that you committed to cover.

So now that it’s done – what’s next??

I’ve explained the process of virtual runDisney races before, and that advise is all still relevant – but I know there was some added confusion this year because once logged into the runDisney site, many saw messaging about having to submit proof of running within a certain period of time. For this reason, I reached out to runDisney directly and was able to get the following confirmations in writing:

  • Sharing it out: If you want to share out your experience on social media, be sure to use the tag #WineDineVirtual
  • Medals and Shirts: You don’t need to submit ANYTHING to receive these after the race. It’s all done on the honor system. In the words of runDisney staff, “finisher medals with the long sleeve event tech shirts are awarded to runners based on the honor system of having walked, run, or jogged the required distance during the time frame of your virtual race. Please know these shipments are sent on a revolving basis, which means some Guests will receive their packages prior to others. However, we do anticipate most runners will receive their items by the end of December. If you have not received anything by this time, please [reach out to runDisney and] a Cast Member will be happy to assist you further.”
  • Finisher Certificates: Again, per runDisney, “[a]ll participants will have until November 16, 2020, to submit their finish time and print their finisher certificate on their runDisney account. From your dashboard, click on “Submit Results” and choose the race. You will then select Submit Activity, Add Activity, and enter your time for submission. You will be unable to access your finisher certificate after this date.” Note that this is NOT necessary to receive your medals or shirts – it’s only if you want to print a finisher certificate for yourself. That said, this is a significantly shorter period of time than the full year that is sometimes offered – so if you want the certificate be sure to take these steps soon.

Hope this is helpful to everyone that ran this weekend (or otherwise) for the #WineDineVirtual. See you at the next one!!
