Eat This: Mexico’s Jardin de Fiestas at Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival

My friends – Mexico’s Jardin de Fiestas at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival DELIVERS this year. Big time.

The booth – predictably located just outside of the Mexico pavilion in World Showcase – offers 3 food items this year: two savory and one sweet. And they are ALL good. And so are the drinks.

  • Tlacoyo: Blue Corn Masa topped with Black Bean Spread, Ground Chorizo, Queso Fresco and Mexican Cream ($6.50)

This is wonderful. Fresh ground chorizo on a blue corn cake with black bean, queso fresco and cream, and crisp cabbage. It’s also an incredibly hearty serving at just $6.50 – so it’s one of the best values out here at the Festival, too.

  • Beef Torta: Braised Beef served on a Crispy Sourdough Roll with Queso Oaxaca, Avocado, Pickled Onions and Jalapeños in a Spicy Habanero Sauce ($6.50)

Oh. My. God. Is this good. If I’d been thinking more clearly I would have taken a picture that better shows that this thing is actually an incredible sandwich stuffed into a cup with sauce at the bottom – but I was too caught up in eating it. Do not be too thrown by the “spicy habanero sauce” description, as I didn’t notice too much heat at all. A little kick, but nothing overwhelming. The meat and toppings on this melt in your mouth and the crisp sourdough roll is perfection. Don’t miss it. It’s one of the best things at Flower & Garden.

  • Tres Leches: Milk-soaked Sponge Cake topped with Cajeta Whipped Cream and Almond Powder ($4.50)

This, too, is wonderful. It’s very rich and dense, so perhaps have a friend along to share it with – but it’s easily one of the best desserts I’ve tasted at Flower & Garden. Absolutely don’t miss it.

  • Damiana Flower Margarita: Damiana Flower Liqueur, Blanco Tequila, Agave Nectar and Citrus Juices served on the rocks with a Black Ant Salt Rim ($10.50)

And last but not least – this fabulous margarita. Unlike so many drinks at Flower & Garden, this is not overly sweet in the slightest. Just a smooth, well mixed margarita with lots of interesting flavors and an awesome salted rim.

Make no mistakes. I will be back. But until then?
