Did you run the W&D 5K? How did it go? Brief paus Did you run the W&D 5K? How did it go?

Brief pause in our trek through The runDisney Companion this week to spend a little time recapping Wine & Dine. I talk through the 10K and half and then spend a little time with my thoughts on the new 5k format and the changes that came with it. Would love to hear your thoughts too.

But spoiler alert going in: not one person was swept at the 5K and not one course was cut short. You are all amazing. 🩵

How were your races?

A lot of you told me this was super helpful for Wi A lot of you told me this was super helpful for Wine & Dine, so I thought I’d share it out again as we round the bend toward marathon. A tool to help you see how your moving pace and your start time (as compared to the last wave’s) can interact on race day to determine how much time you have for characters and other stops along the way.

All the common sense qualifiers apply: this doesn’t guarantee anything, Disney requires that everyone keep the 16 min/mile pace, and keeping moving makes for a better experience for everyone. And always listen to CMs and volunteers on and off the course.

How this applies to the 5Ks will likely continue to develop, but for now I would use the last wave of your corral group rather than the last wave of the very last corral.

Don’t know what times to use? You can play with the same times from Marathon Weekend 2026 on my site. The calculator is at thecastlerun.com/cushion.
More from my conversation with @themusclemouse on More from my conversation with @themusclemouse on this week’s episode of The Castle Run Podcast covering training and preparation - this bit feels especially on point as our long runs really start to ramp up. You can listen to our whole conversation, which covered a ton of ground, on Ep. 5 of The Castle Run Podcast wherever you watch or listen.

The absolute best first guest on The Castle Run Po The absolute best first guest on The Castle Run Podcast. We even got into the origin story of @thetutuguys. The conversation with Tom dove into training and preparation, and his perspective as a strength and nutrition coach with a focus on runners and a deep understanding of runDisney (obvs) made him the absolute perfect other half of this super important conversation.

I always say it’s not about the race but about the months of training that lead up to it. The art of showing up for yourself over and over again, when you’re the only person you’re accountable to, shifts something in your mind. It’s where the identify shift starts to happen.

For Tom, that same confidence shift started when he first set foot (on purpose, at least) in a gym at 23 years old after two plus decades of rejecting weights in favor of video games. He tells his whole origin story, and then drops some really excellent truths, on this week’s episode of The Castle Run Podcast.

(It’s still so weird that I have a show. 😂🤗 Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who approached me during Wine & Dine to tell me you’ve been listening and loving it. I feel like I’m learning so much with each episode.)

Anyway, go listen! It’s available to watch or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

And you’re probably already following @themusclemouse but if you’re not go follow him. He’s a good egg. He’s also the exclusive strength and conditioning coach partner on The runDisney Companion. I picked him for that spot because I trust him with you.
