Free Disney: How I Spent a Perfect Evening in Disney and Never Opened My Wallet

    ByLisa July 26, 2018July 26, 2018

We’ve all heard the jokes. We’ve all seen the sad dad trailing along in the “Most Expensive Day Ever” t-shirt. From snacks to balloons to souvenirs to resorts to parking, Disney generally ain’t cheap. So it’s always satisfying to have a great time around here without spending a mint. Last weekend we headed to Disney…

Being a Foodie on DCL – Disney Wonder Alaska (June 18-25, 2018)

    ByLisa July 16, 2018July 16, 2018

Cabanas, ooh na-na… Half of my heart is at Cabanas, ooh na-na… Oh. Sorry. I thought I was alone. I’ve been singing that to myself on a loop for like 3 weeks. I’ve been thinking a lot about the food experience on the Disney Wonder ever since the trip started a few weeks ago. And…

Alaska on the Disney Wonder (June 18-25, 2018) … Or “The Trip That Left Me Speechless”

    ByLisa July 2, 2018July 3, 2018

If you ever want to find yourself utterly unable to begin to know what to write, I highly, highly recommend taking a 7 night cruise to Alaska on a Disney ship with your family and 150+ of your closest friends. I’ve been trying to figure out where even to begin to talk about this trip…

First Thoughts: Toy Story Land Soft Opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

    ByLisa June 30, 2018June 30, 2018

Confession: I wasn’t that excited about Toy Story Land in the months leading up to its opening. ::ducks for cover:: Don’t get me wrong, I was eager for another new space. And for life to return to Hollywood Studios. And to eat everything at Woody’s Lunchbox. And the Toy Story franchise is one of my…

    ByLisa April 23, 2018June 18, 2018

If you’re anything like me and you’ve participated in a runDisney 5K, you have a little pang of “why why WHY did I sign up for this?” when your alarm goes off at around 2 a.m. so that you can go run 3.1 miles. There have been many mornings when I’ve reevaluated my life choices…

Disney Parking: The Fly on the Wall

    ByLisa March 15, 2018June 18, 2018

So yesterday Walt Disney World made the oh-so-earth-shattering announcement that resort guests will now generally be charged an overnight parking fee. The fine print can be found here – but the gist is that for reservations made on or after March 21 of this year, standard overnight parking for resort guests will cost $13/night for…

Taking the Florida Plunge: Looking Back on Six Months as a Disney Local

    ByLisa February 13, 2018June 18, 2018

We closed on our Florida home on August 11, 2017 – just 3 days before the kids were set to start at their new schools. The flurry of madness that preceded that day has, as these things do, settled into a barely remembered blur. And while I do still usually use my navigation system to…

Eat This: Beaches and Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

    ByLisa October 30, 2017June 18, 2018

There once was a time when I set my alarm for dawn 180 days out from our trips to book all of the hard to get ADRs. Now, on park days, I wake up in the morning and browse the Disney app with the kids to pick our day’s plans. Yesterday morning was a lazy-ish…

When Does It Become Home? Early thoughts on being a local…

    ByLisa October 21, 2017June 18, 2018

If you’ve ever moved into a new-to-you house or condo or apartment or other space, you have at least an inkling of what this question means. How deep it runs. If you’ve ever moved to a place where you once vacationed (or just downright escaped to), you have probably also experienced the strange paths that…

SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ A week and SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

A week and change ago, my boys and I were invited to preview Steve Lewis’s newest creation at Disney Springs: a savory new sibling to Gideon’s Bakehouse filled with original characters, Gothic lore, and an opening menu built around house-made Coffyns. And now I can finally share it with you.

What is a Coffyn? A soft, house-made yeast roll enclosing a savory meal, a popular pastry from hundreds of years ago. It was peasant food, bread stuffed with whatever was available and portable enough to carry to work.

We tried:

🐦‍⬛ The Villain of Valentina, a chicken Coffyn with enough garlic to keep you extremely safe from vampires. Delicious. But not recommended for first dates.

🐦‍⬛ The Imperial Idol, filled with curry-seasoned chicken and served with a creamy, herb-forward sauce.

🐦‍⬛ The Peasant’s Patty, a cheeseburger-style Coffyn that Tyson inhaled before I could get a decent photo.

We also tried the smashed potatoes with Steve’s honey mustard creation, an exclusive-to-Six-Ravens root beer designed not to sit on your palate and overwhelm the other flavors, and an absurdly rich raspberry-and-chocolate tart.

Like Gideon’s, the food is only one part of the experience. Every door handle, mural, and package tells a story. Steve already has plans for the characters you meet inside—including the Oracle watching over the registers.

He went on about tomatoes once being called Wolf Peaches.

It is that old-school “everything speaks” approach that we don’t get enough of these days.

Swipe through for our first look inside and everything we ate and drank.

Six Ravens and Gideon’s sitting side by side at Disney Springs are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

We were invited to attend a preview of Six Ravens. I was not paid for this coverage, and all opinions are my own.
