Our Dialogues with Pain: Ovarian Torsion, Surgical Menopause, and Identity

    ByLisa August 26, 2018

Today we’re going to change tack. A lot. And talk about that day last spring when everything and nothing changed. It was April 5, 2018. My husband was traveling for work and it was otherwise a normal Thursday morning before school with the boys. I’d woken up a little crampy but dismissed it as muscle…

Celebrating One Year: The Shortest and Longest 365 Days in the History of…Home

    ByLisa August 11, 2018August 11, 2018

I went to bed last night knowing that I was waking up to the most wonderful of Facebook memories in the morning. One year ago today we closed on our lovely little home in…Home. One year ago today the “See ya real soon!” sign at the exit to Magic Kingdom became true, instead of something…

Taking the Florida Plunge: Looking Back on Six Months as a Disney Local

    ByLisa February 13, 2018June 18, 2018

We closed on our Florida home on August 11, 2017 – just 3 days before the kids were set to start at their new schools. The flurry of madness that preceded that day has, as these things do, settled into a barely remembered blur. And while I do still usually use my navigation system to…

    Happy New Year, My Friends

    ByLisa January 2, 2018June 9, 2018

The following is nothing more than a repost of my off-the-cuff thoughts leading into 2018 elsewhere on social media – for no other reason than that they are a part of the over story that I am gathering here….   I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t exhausted and overwhelmed by the idea of…

    Motherhood and Its Tears

    ByLisa November 17, 2017July 1, 2018

“Mommy why don’t you sing Rockabye Baby to me at night anymore?” “Honey, that’s actually not a song that I ever really sang to you….” “Yes you did. Will you sing it to me one last time tonight?” And like that I’m in tears. Over the end of a ritual that started at the same…

    Keep Moving Forward…Into What?

    ByLisa November 9, 2017July 1, 2018

When I was in law, I had reoccurring nightmares about climbing. Well…perhaps “nightmare” is too strong a word. But the gist of my almost-nightly subconscious wandering was that I was, in some way, shape, or form, climbing upward on something that was shaky. Either a wobbly ladder or poorly connected platforms or a broken escalator…….

How I Ended Up Leaving Big Law and Moving to Disney World

    ByLisa October 25, 2017February 5, 2020

“Just put a date on the calendar. I don’t care if it’s two weeks from now or two years from now. Just put it down. And then spend whatever span of time exists between now and then wrapping your head around this. Because it’s going to be hard.” It ended up being just about 6…

When Does It Become Home? Early thoughts on being a local…

    ByLisa October 21, 2017June 18, 2018

If you’ve ever moved into a new-to-you house or condo or apartment or other space, you have at least an inkling of what this question means. How deep it runs. If you’ve ever moved to a place where you once vacationed (or just downright escaped to), you have probably also experienced the strange paths that…

On Loving Japan…and Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival – Japan Booth

    ByLisa October 8, 2017June 30, 2018

Japan is my jam. I’ve been intrigued by this fascinating, dichotomous culture since high school and borderline obsessed since college. I studied the language from my freshman year of college through my first year of law school (running from Japanese to civil procedure several mornings a week, trying desperately to switch my head back into…

    On Controlling What We Can…

    ByLisa September 30, 2017June 18, 2018

I’ve followed more strict eating regimens over the years than I could probably count. I’ve always loved good food. But I’ve also always loved my health, and control, and a good challenge – not to mention the more superficial effects of good eating. And control. Did I mention control? I’ve always been active, but as…

SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ A week and SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

A week and change ago, my boys and I were invited to preview Steve Lewis’s newest creation at Disney Springs: a savory new sibling to Gideon’s Bakehouse filled with original characters, Gothic lore, and an opening menu built around house-made Coffyns. And now I can finally share it with you.

What is a Coffyn? A soft, house-made yeast roll enclosing a savory meal, a popular pastry from hundreds of years ago. It was peasant food, bread stuffed with whatever was available and portable enough to carry to work.

We tried:

🐦‍⬛ The Villain of Valentina, a chicken Coffyn with enough garlic to keep you extremely safe from vampires. Delicious. But not recommended for first dates.

🐦‍⬛ The Imperial Idol, filled with curry-seasoned chicken and served with a creamy, herb-forward sauce.

🐦‍⬛ The Peasant’s Patty, a cheeseburger-style Coffyn that Tyson inhaled before I could get a decent photo.

We also tried the smashed potatoes with Steve’s honey mustard creation, an exclusive-to-Six-Ravens root beer designed not to sit on your palate and overwhelm the other flavors, and an absurdly rich raspberry-and-chocolate tart.

Like Gideon’s, the food is only one part of the experience. Every door handle, mural, and package tells a story. Steve already has plans for the characters you meet inside—including the Oracle watching over the registers.

He went on about tomatoes once being called Wolf Peaches.

It is that old-school “everything speaks” approach that we don’t get enough of these days.

Swipe through for our first look inside and everything we ate and drank.

Six Ravens and Gideon’s sitting side by side at Disney Springs are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

We were invited to attend a preview of Six Ravens. I was not paid for this coverage, and all opinions are my own.
