A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King

When I first heard that A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King was coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I’ll fully admit that I was more excited for the cast of the show than I was for myself. It’s one of my favorite shows on property, to say the least – and while I was excited for the performers that would be returning to the stage and eager to see it, I assumed we’d be getting a sort of socially distanced and sterilized version of things. A group of well spaced out people on that center stage just performing the songs from the movie and show.

I’ve never been so happy to be wrong.

I finally got over there today to see it. We waited in line for a little over an hour – lining up a little before twelve and entering the theater for the 1:30 show at a little before 1. Beverages from Dawa Bar helped us to pass the time…

The audience is very spaced out – you are not near others at all and, as always inside, you are to be masked. It runs about 25 minutes long and is put on many times each day. You can find the current schedule in the entertainment options section of your Disney app.

The show is….wonderful. It is the same show, the same spirit. What’s missing isn’t surprising – the audience interaction bits, the tumble monkeys, the aerial portion of the birds’ act. But it is otherwise all there. It is all of the same excitement and emotion – made all the more wonderful because we are so happy to be there again and the actors’ joy is so incredibly obvious.

Until you can get there, I hope these pictures make you smile.
