This week we head over to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge for one of the most beautiful running trails on property.

  • Location: From the front of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, around the side of the building, and out and back in front of both “wings” of cabins along the water.

There was a time not long ago when you could run all of Wilderness Lodge and then over a path to Fort Wilderness. It was a great trail that got you an easy 6-7 miles – but it’s history now that they’ve closed down the connecting trail to make way for the new Reflections Resort.

Happily, though, the individual trails at each of Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are still open, and both are lovely.

  • Distance: About 1.7 miles.

It’s not a massive trail on its own but the path around the main building, out to the Cascade Cabins to the right (stop at the clearly marked “trail ends here” sign), then back, past the pool area, out to the dock and back, and then over the bridge to the Cascade Cabins on the left (go all the way to cabin 8001) and back, will give you an easy 1.7 miles – so 2 cycles will get you a 5K training run and change.

It’s worth noting that this is much more than the short 0.5 miles mapped out on the resort running trail map.

  • Pro Hack: Bug spray and (as always) sun block!! This is a gorgeous running path but is very much on the water and over marshy areas, so even though Disney is amazing at mosquito prevention I tend to double up and wear a bit of repellant myself when I’m here, as well as the usual sunblock.
  • Fun Fact: Look down while you’re running and you might just see the tracks of some friends that have worn the path before you!
