We fell in love this weekend: New Bern’s Trail to Tryon Races x Breeze Airways

    ByLisa September 26, 2024October 2, 2024

There are a handful of times in my life that I’ve set foot in a place that just felt right: In 11th grade, coming up the escalator from Penn Station to visit my father while he was stationed in New York, in college and law school, first stumbling on each of my favorite nooks in…

    A note from the start of the (runDisney) training season. {{And a love letter to marathon training.}}

    ByLisa September 10, 2024September 10, 2024

Training officially started today for my 2024-’25 (runDisney) running season. My first major race of the season will probably be runDisney’s Wine & Dine (short of any spontaneous local ones I throw in along the way) but I always gear my training to January’s Dopey Challenge since that’s the biggest race set of the season…

    Staying Safe When Running Alone

    ByLisa September 5, 2022September 6, 2022

It’s hard not to watch the story of missing Memphis runner, Eliza Fletcher, unfold without thinking, among so many other things, “there but for the grace of God…” We are praying hard for Fletcher and her family. And I want, also, to make sure that each of us is assessing our own training practices and…

SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ A week and SIX RAVENS IS OPEN. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

A week and change ago, my boys and I were invited to preview Steve Lewis’s newest creation at Disney Springs: a savory new sibling to Gideon’s Bakehouse filled with original characters, Gothic lore, and an opening menu built around house-made Coffyns. And now I can finally share it with you.

What is a Coffyn? A soft, house-made yeast roll enclosing a savory meal, a popular pastry from hundreds of years ago. It was peasant food, bread stuffed with whatever was available and portable enough to carry to work.

We tried:

🐦‍⬛ The Villain of Valentina, a chicken Coffyn with enough garlic to keep you extremely safe from vampires. Delicious. But not recommended for first dates.

🐦‍⬛ The Imperial Idol, filled with curry-seasoned chicken and served with a creamy, herb-forward sauce.

🐦‍⬛ The Peasant’s Patty, a cheeseburger-style Coffyn that Tyson inhaled before I could get a decent photo.

We also tried the smashed potatoes with Steve’s honey mustard creation, an exclusive-to-Six-Ravens root beer designed not to sit on your palate and overwhelm the other flavors, and an absurdly rich raspberry-and-chocolate tart.

Like Gideon’s, the food is only one part of the experience. Every door handle, mural, and package tells a story. Steve already has plans for the characters you meet inside—including the Oracle watching over the registers.

He went on about tomatoes once being called Wolf Peaches.

It is that old-school “everything speaks” approach that we don’t get enough of these days.

Swipe through for our first look inside and everything we ate and drank.

Six Ravens and Gideon’s sitting side by side at Disney Springs are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

We were invited to attend a preview of Six Ravens. I was not paid for this coverage, and all opinions are my own.
