Some sad news coming out of Disney Parks Blog this afternoon. In light of new ride share options, and perhaps the new high speed train that will connect MCO to Walt Disney World and beyond, Disney will no longer offer Disney’s Magical Express service for airport transportation.
The change will take effect for arrivals on or after January 1, 2022.
Disney notes that complimentary transportation options – such as buses, monorails and the Disney Skyliner – will continue to be available within Walt Disney World Resort for Disney Resort hotel guests, including to and from all four theme parks.
How will does affect your travel plans going into 2022? While options such as Uber and Lyft are definitely convenient, I know there was always something symbolic and special about that ride on the Magical Express from MCO to our resort…and something comforting about that ride back to MCO on the “Tragical” Express after our trip was over. That said, I do understand it. Times are changing. Rideshare options are popular and convenient and bus operation is incredibly difficult these days. People were being forced to leave for MCO earlier and earlier on departure days because Disney couldn’t risk people missing flights. All around, it’s a sad change for me…but one I can understand from a practical and logical point of view.
